City of Erie - Last 100 Years of History

Professor/Instructor/Speaker: Mark Squeglia, B.A.

A "look back" at Erie 100 years ago from the years 1920 to 1925. Focus of the discussion will be Erie in the world and national events at that time. Squeglia will look into Erie's population, Immigration, and various nationalities, as well as explain the development of new Erie neighborhoods. Join for a colorful look at Erie's religions, education, industry, and economy during the early to mid-1920's.

Mark Squeglia, B.A.

An Erie native, Mark Squeglia, B.A. has spent the majority of his career working in the areas of information technology and marketing for Hammermill Paper, Erie Insurance and General Electric. Squeglia is the board vice president of the Hagen History Center board of directors, and he has been involved in governance, advancement, planning, facilities, and executive committees. He stepped in as the interim executive director between December and June 2022 while taking a leave of absence from the board. Squeglia has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Gannon College and has been involved in the Hagen History Center’s speaker series for several years. He is also a frequent lecturer for the Jefferson Education Society of Erie on historical topics, specializing in military history, specifically World War II. He is also a board member of Torch International’s Erie chapter and a member of the Perry 200 Commission.
