P.Barry McAndrew,

P. BARRY McANDREW received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education/English from the University of Scranton in 1963.  Subsequently, he received his Master of Arts degree in English from Niagara University in 1964.  At his retirement, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters Degree by Mercyhurst College.

Dr. McAndrew began teaching at Mercyhurst College in the Fall of 1964 and remained there for the 41 years of his teaching career until he retired in 2005.  During his tenure at Mercyhurst he achieved the rank of Associate Professor, served as the department chair for a number of years and was granted the prestigious “Teaching Excellence” award in 1996. Dr. McAndrew's area of study is primarily British Literature with a concentration in Shakespeare.  However, over the years he has also taught courses in Writing, World Literature and Science Fiction. He is an avid reader in many areas but is particularly interested in the fields of quantum physics and biology.

As a complement to his classroom experiences Dr. McAndrew has been performing in theatre since the late 1960’s.  He has performed in dramas, ballets, operas, and dinner theatre productions. This year will be his 30th consecutive year performing in A Canterbury Feast, a medieval style musical dinner theatre production.
