Winning World War II – Mobilizing Industry – The Great Depression left U.S. industrial might a shell of its former shelf. With the German invasion of Poland in 1939, the U.S. began to awaken from its industrial and military slumber. This presentation will include an in-depth review and discussion of the events, policies, and actions that led the U.S. to become the “Arsenal of Democracy,” a military leader in the Allied cause, and one of the two super powers in the post-World War II world.  How did the US become the Arsenal of Democracy?Mark Squeglia, B.A. 

Mark Squeglia, B.A.

An Erie native, Mark Squeglia, B.A. has spent the majority of his career working in the areas of information technology and marketing for Hammermill Paper, Erie Insurance and General Electric. Squeglia is the board vice president of the Hagen History Center board of directors, and he has been involved in governance, advancement, planning, facilities, and executive committees. He stepped in as the interim executive director between December and June 2022 while taking a leave of absence from the board. Squeglia has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Gannon College and has been involved in the Hagen History Center’s speaker series for several years. He is also a frequent lecturer for the Jefferson Education Society of Erie on historical topics, specializing in military history, specifically World War II. He is also a board member of Torch International’s Erie chapter and a member of the Perry 200 Commission.
