The USA 250 Great America Trivia Challenge: Qualifying Exams

So, you think you know a thing or two about America? The nation's history? Our country's institutions? Our sports? Our music? Our culture?

Help JES commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a challenging and fun series of trivia games befitting of the occasion!

The Jefferson Educational Society Team and four Erie, Pennsylvania-based enthusiasts and historians – Mark Becker, George Deutsch, Randy Shapira, and Rick Tome – are seeking nine trivia masters to compete in three preliminary three-contestant games. The three winners will advance to the Championship Game to determine the ultimate trivia winner!

Winners of Round 1 games will receive $1,000 cash prize. The ultimate champion will receive an additional $2,000 cash prize. Consolation prizes will be awarded to all contestants.

Those interested in playing must register for and complete the qualifying test (details below). Those wishing to attend to be a part of the "live audience" can register to attend the "games" – rooting for their players and learning plenty of trivia along the way.

Round 1 matches will be played on Wednesday, May 20; Thursday, May 21; and Tuesday, May 26. The Championship Game will be held Thursday, May 27. All four games are free and open to the public to attend with advanced registration.

Registering for and Taking the Qualifying Exams:

Registration will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for each test is capped at 75 participants. Participants must sign a waiver to participate.

The top nine scorers will be eligible to participate in the games and assigned their date at random. Three alternates will also be selected in the event that one or more of the top-nine scores cannot, or elects not to, participate.

The tests are timed and limited to 30 minutes. Each test will feature 50 questions.

The use of cellphones and other electronic devices, such as tablets and computers, during the tests and games are strictly prohibited. The use of these devices, or any other aides, during the tests and games will result in immediate disqualification.

Participants should arrive 15 minutes early on the day of the exam in order to allow time to check in, sign the required waiver, and make their way to their seats. The JES will provide the written test and writing implements.

When all are seated the test proctors will read the rules that apply to all.

Late arrivals will not be afforded additional time.

Not every question must be answered before submitting your test, or before time has expired.

There is no penalty for incorrect answers. "Points" are awarded only for correct answers.

Within roughly two weeks of the Qualifying Exam, top scorers will be notified of their participant date.
