The History of Newspapers and Newsmakers in Erie (and PA)

Newspapers have been a part of the American scene since colonial days and a part of Erie since the early 1800s. What were they? Who did they cover? How did they influence their communities? Two veteran Erie newspaper voices -- brothers Kevin Cuneo and Pat Cuneo -- put the spotlight on newspapers and newsmakers and invite the Jefferson audience to join them.

Pat  Cuneo, B.A.

Pat Cuneo, B.A., serves as the Director of Publications at the Jefferson Educational Society. He is a former reporter, editor, and columnist for the Erie Times-News.  An Erie native, he is a 1978 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and studied journalism at Poynter Institute and the American Press Institute. He recorded his first “45” for Franklin Records in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1979 (“Lost and Lonely”), performed as a singer-songwriter for the Alex Findley Band at regional folk festivals for more than a decade and was a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association from 1992 to 2007.

 

Kevin Cuneo

Kevin Cuneo, B.A., continues to write a weekly column for the Erie-Times News after retiring from the newspaper following a four-decade career as a writer and editor. He won numerous state and national awards for sports and feature writing and his articles have appeared in a number of national publications, such as Sports Illustrated. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and continues to work as the national communications director for his college fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
