Despite the growth in living standards over time, poverty remains a significant problem in many parts of the country, including Erie, PAWhat is the extent of poverty in Erie, and has it changed over time?  Is the incidence of poverty different in the city of Erie compared to other parts of Erie County and other parts of the commonwealth?  Which demographic groups in our community have experienced the highest rates of povertyAnalysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau can provide some answers to these important questions.

Kenneth Louie, Ph.D.

Ken Louie, Ph.D., is Director of the Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE) and Associate Professor of Economics in the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend. He received his B.A. in Economics from Northwestern University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His areas of specialization are macroeconomics, international economics, the economics of labor markets, and the economy of China. As director of ERIE, Dr. Louie has provided analysis and commentary on issues related to the Erie economy for local and national news media.
