Martin Luther King Jr.: Examining King's Life, Legacy, & Impact

American icon Martin Luther King Jr. inspired the nation in life and in death.
Local King academic experts Bill Hunter, Parris Baker, Scott Michel, and
Marcus Atkinson will discuss King's life, legacy, and enduring impact locally
and nationally in advance of a Jefferson essay they are currently writing for
release before the anniversary of King's assassination on April 4. The talk
will also reflect a visit to Erie by Martin Luther King III on Jan. 11 and the
observation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20. Atkinson will lead a
panel discussion featuring Hunter, Baker, and Michel as part of the program
– Marcus Atkinson, B.A., Parris Baker, Ph.D. M.A.S.S., Bill Hunter, Ph.D.,
Scott Michael, Ph.D.

Marcus Atkinson, B.A.

Marcus Atkinson, B.A., is the host of NEXT on WQLN Radio and CEO of The Publix
Voice Media LLC. Atkinson is also the Executive Director of ServErie. A native of Erie
and a graduate of Strong Vincent, Marcus spent over a decade in Atlanta, GA, where
he earned a degree in Business from Clayton State University and immersed himself
in political and community organizing. Since his return to Erie in 2005 leading up to
his tenure at ServErie, Marcus has been heavily involved in youth empowerment and
advocating for the greater Erie community.
