Holy Warrior Presidents: How Madison and Eisenhower Handled Their "Holy Wars" in 1812 and WWII

July 17th,2019 | 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Professor/Instructor/Speaker: Charles Brock, M.Litt.

DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES, THIS PROGRAM IS POSTPONED

Rev. Brock will draw on his research of 16 U.S. presidents who believed wars
were providential for freedom and the American mission of spreading freedom
and prosperity. In this presentation, he will focus on the Presidents James
Madison and Dwight Eisenhower – both Calvinists. Madison's Princeton
education and his use of John Locke's Congregationalism influenced his
writing of the Constitution; he would later be criticized for leading the
young country into the "lost cause" of the War of 1812. Five-star General
Eisenhower, leader of the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe 75 years ago, said
WWII and fighting communism were "crusades" with all the undertones of a
warrior religion present and accounted for.
