East Erie Satellite: Redistricting Reform: Making Sure Voters Pick Their Lawmakers

July 31st,2025 | 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Professor/Instructor/Speaker:  Michael  Bucell

Every 10 years following the U.S. Census, Pennsylvania's House, Senate, and Congressional district maps are redrawn to reflect population changes. Unfortunately, a history of gerrymandering has resulted in lawmakers selecting their voters too often, rather than voters selecting their lawmakers. As a consequence, artificial majorities are created, and the voices of voters are muffled. Election integrity begins with district maps that aren't gerrymandered. Dr. Michael Bucell, a Fair Districts PA volunteer who serves as the local Fair Districts PA coordinator in Erie County, Pennsylvania, and as the Northwest Region Contact Person, will explain why a PA constitutional amendment is necessary to ensure fair districts and elections in the future of the Commonwealth. Learn how every voter can raise their voice to help advocate for the redistricting reform that is needed and that makes sense.
