Earth Day 2022: Invest in Our Lake

EARTHDAY.ORG selected the 2022 Earth Day theme, "Invest in Our Planet", recognizing that action by everyone including businesses, governments, and citizens is needed to combat climate change. Jenny Tompkins, PennFuture's Campaign Manager for Clean Water Advocacy, will apply this theme to Lake Erie, detailing the diversity of actions needed to effectively "Invest in Our Lake". Her presentation will provide a brief history of Earth Day, detail several of the current direct and indirect threats to water quality and offer recommendations for how everyone in the watershed can contribute to addressing these challenges.

 

Covid-19 policies will be in effect throughout programming, please review the JES Covid-19 policy here. Patrons will need to show their vaccination cards or proof of a negative test. Face masks will no longer be required for patrons, but are encouraged. Advanced registration is required to receive a boxed lunch. Community Discussion Lunch 'n' Learn programs are free for admission and $5/person for a boxed lunch.

Jennifer Tompkins, B.A.

Jenny Tompkins, B.A., is PennFuture’s Campaign Manager for Clean Water Advocacy. She leads the Our Water, Our Future campaign, focused on implementing sound policy solutions to improve water quality and ensure the health of communities in the Pennsylvania Lake Erie Watershed. She earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies at Allegheny College. Prior to joining PennFuture, she served as a professional grant writer and community trauma reduction advocate. Most recently, she held the position of Crawford County Assistant Planning Director for Community Development. Fortunate enough to grow up on the Finger Lakes in Central New York, Jenny developed an appreciation for freshwater ecosystems at an early age.
