Dangerous Indifference: Leading in Times of Challenge, Crisis, and Controversy

March 10th,2023 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Professor/Instructor/Speaker: Ian Roberts, Ph.D.

We should value people, their individuality, their lived experiences, and ultimately recognize that such an approach and aligned actions will likely optimize the efforts of everyone on our team and in our organization. The challenge is that living these values is tough when everyday pressures get in the way of these core ideas, or when our own implicit biases impede our ability to be culturally responsive. All over this country, leaders have been tasked with getting the best out of a team of people who have vastly different lived experiences. The ability to elevate those different lived experiences in order to create a world class team is culturally responsive leadership. It is doing more than accepting or tolerating the difference or diversity on your team. It is valuing and respecting those differences. It is rallying those differences around a common mission and vision in order to be able to serve the world in a better way. That's the definition of culturally responsive leadership.
