The Corry Community Foundation is evaluating interest in starting an Emerging Corry Fund modeled after the Emerging Erie Fund of the Erie Community Foundation. As part of our mission to create enduring charitable endowments that enhance our local region and support the next generation of philanthropic and community leaders, CCF aims to build on the insights gained from the Emerging Erie Fund. The envisioned group will consist of young individuals committed to creating lasting change and empowering emerging leaders to drive the transformation they want to see. Kimberly Hawkes serves as a board member for the Corry Community Foundation and several nonprofit organizations focused on trails. The Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for everyone in our region by assessing and addressing local issues, creating lasting charitable endowments, and fostering philanthropic and community leadership.
Originally from the Corry area, Kimberly traveled worldwide supporting operations in numerous countries. However, when the opportunity arose, she chose to return to Corry. Drawing on the region's abundant assets, she actively supports local nonprofits working collaboratively to drive positive change.
Shelby Scouten is the executive assistant of the Corry Community Foundation and is also on the Corry Area United Fund. She is a Corry transplant, having grown up in Erie and relocating from Cleveland in 2006. She is well-versed in the local nonprofit sector and supports several local booster teams.
Nick Cianci is the Development Officer at Hamot Health Foundation, where he plays a key role in advancing the strategic priorities of UPMC Hamot. His efforts focus on philanthropy to support priorities such as clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, career development, and community health initiatives. With a strong background in fundraising, Nick has previously worked in roles to support community development and higher education.
Nick holds dual bachelor’s degrees from Mercyhurst University and a master’s degree in education from Edinboro University. In addition, he currently serves as chair of the Emerging Erie Fund and as vice-chair of the board of directors for the Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools in Hermitage, PA.
Alec Zaphiris is an insurance professional with over 11 years of experience in the industry. As a Senior Account Executive at Great Lakes Insurance Services Group, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role, consistently delivering exceptional results for his clients and company alike.
In addition to his professional accomplishments Alec is being awarded the Spirit of Philanthropy Award by the Erie Community Foundation for his work with the Emerging Erie Fund FKA Young Erie Philanthropists. He has worked as the director of fund development for the past two years where he and his team raised over $200,000, $100,000 of that coming from their most recent campaign. The fund has increased the annual grant award from $5,000 to $100,000 in just 4 years, he credits his fellow board members and his fund development team for the success they have had.
His involvement in the community extends beyond his work with the Erie Community Foundation to various initiatives, showcasing his commitment to making a difference. Whether it's through events like the Boys & Girls Club Kiss A Pig fundraiser, serving on Hamot Health Foundation’s Board of Corporators, or his Family’s work with United Way of Erie County’s Community Schools Program.
Courtney Olevnik is an international education consultant, guiding students, educators, and institutions through the complexities of international student visas, evolving immigration regulations, student service resources, and post-graduation opportunities. A committed yogini for over a decade, she emphasizes mindfulness, balance, and holistic wellness in her classes at yogaErie.
As the membership committee chair of the Emerging Erie Fund, Courtney focuses on building a network of engaged professionals who are passionate about collective giving and driving meaningful change. She is also a member of the Erie Women’s Fund, supporting efforts to empower women and address critical community needs, and serves as president of Erie ClaySpace, a nonprofit dedicated to educating, empowering, and inspiring through ceramic arts.
