The lack of available and affordable child care among many populations has had a lasting impact on the available workforce throughout our country. With the forthcoming concern regarding the viability of any community's capacity for a qualified workforce, barriers for potential workers need to be systemically addressed. Through his JES Raimy Fellows research, Dr. Matthew Platz focuses on the background of workforce development through the prism of child-care options in the rural areas of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Each barricade to full employment for small communities will be discussed as it relates to the availability of quality child care. His findings offer potential prescriptions for the barrier of child care accessibility facing the workforce in a small Pennsylvania municipality.
