Aging Successfully: Can it Be Done?

July 31st,2017 | 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Professor/Instructor/Speaker: James  Lin

From plastic surgery to make-up tricks that turn back the hands of time, Americans are beset and fearful about growing old. It is not only the wrinkles, but the possibility of losing independence that concerns us about ourselves and loved ones. James Lin, DO, describes the physical and mental changes that come with aging and defines “successful aging” as a multidimensional effort, encompassing the avoidance of disease and disability while maintaining high physical and cognitive function, and sustained engagement in social and productive activities. He describes a protocol that can provide guidance as inevitable aging occurs. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining independence and control of one’s life and shows how that can be achieved. Dr. Lin is the Director of the LECOM Institute for Successful Aging and Vice President of Senior Services and Adult Living. Dr. Lin developed LECOM’s geriatrics service line, which provides care to older adults across the full continuum of the aging process. Dr. Lin is a clinical professor of Internal Medicine at LECOM and is the Course Director for Geriatrics. He also is the program director for the Geriatrics Medicine Fellowship. He serves as Chief of Staff at Millcreek Community Hospital. He is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
