Judge John J. Mead, serving in his third year on the Erie County Court of
Common Pleas, will provide an overview of the Court's structure, subject
matter jurisdiction, goals, and initiatives. He will discuss the Court's divisions
to include the Trial, Family, and Orphan's Court Divisions. He will further
explore the broad range of cases heard in this court of general jurisdiction
and what that term entails. Judge Mead will provide details regarding court
accomplishments, initiatives, and goals for the future.

Hon. John J. Mead, J.D., is an Erie, Pennsylvania, native, the son of the late
Edward and Allene Mead. A graduate of Fairview High School (1976), he went on to
Princeton University (B.A. 1980) and then the University of Pittsburgh School of Law
(J.D. 1983). He served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District
of Pennsylvania from 1983 to 1989 and entered the private practice of law from 1989
until 2015, including the law firms of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue; MacDonald Illig
Jones and Britton; and Scarpitti and Mead. From 2006 to 2015, he served as Assistant
Erie City Solicitor and was elected Judge of Erie County Court of Common Pleas in
November 2015. He is married to Blair Mead, with whom he has two children, James
and Adala.
