A 6th Mass Extinction? The Importance and Status of Global Biodiversity - Many scientists claim that the Earth is in the midst of a 6th mass extinction. This current extinction is different from those in the past because it has been attributed to human activities. We will explore the current status of global biodiversity, its importance to the functions of the Earth, the implications of a mass extinction event, and strategies for preventing the most damage to the Earth’s biosphere. – Sarah Bennett, M.S.
